  I.W. BODMIN

In October this year, Mt Edgcumbe Hospital is celebrating their 45th anniversary and to support this special occasion members of Bodmin have been busy knitting teddies in pink and lime green (the colours of the hospital) plus lovely warm knitted hats, fingerless mittens, jumpers and some beautiful crocheted blankets, just right for our current weather. More beautiful memory boxes have been created as their bereavement councillor mentioned that families like to buy these for keepsakes, momentoes and special items after a loved one has passed. Many other items have also been made for their sales table to help support this wonderful charity. The Neonatal Unit at Treliske Hospital has also been benefitting from our craft members expertise with donation of a selection of beautiful quilts and covers.

From April to September the Club has a walking group which ventures out monthly to walk round the Bodmin area. The first walk of the year is always along the Camel Trail with a stop for coffee at the cafe. Other walks have been to Laveddon and Lanhydrock House with the final outing in October this time walking to various sites in the Town and a final stop at Barnecutts for refreshments.

Throughout June, July, August and September Bodmin members have been holding afternoon cream teas in St. Petroc's Church with support from Church members. Through the hard work of members who have helped and given up their time on the four, Sunday afternoons plus donations from members, the events have been highly successful and the money raised, which is shared between the Club and the Church, will contribute to supporting local families over the Christmas period.

BUSY TIME FOR BODMIN INNER WHEEL CRAFT GROUP MEMBERS
Although its Summer and the Club doesn't have a meeting, the craft group members have ben busy making cushions and bed throws for Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. They will be used for their patients or to sell on their craft sales table raising vital funds for the hospice. To help publicise Inner Wheel, adhesive labels are attached to the items which is a great way to advertise our Club and show one of the ways we work within our community plus rewarding to know that we can make a difference. The craft group members are now looking to create more projects and come up with ideas to further support Mt. Edgcumbe.Club Correspondent Lin July 2025

Well, she did it. Bude President Di, with her new hip and her band of supporters went down to Bodmin Airfield on 2nd July and did a sponsored gyro flight in aid of her charities. The flight was 30 mins, down to the Fowey estuary and back. Di said the scenery was beautiful but those of us who stayed on the ground were happy to take her word for it. Her charities are Bude Sea Pool, Bude Exercising for Mobility, Bude Parkinson's Society and CLIC Sargent. People gave very generously and around £2,000 was raised. She's going to be a hard act to follow!

Recently they donated Easter eggs to Ukraine. The craft club made 42 heart cushions that were donated to the Mermaid centre at The Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro. They have donated money to The Blood Bikes, The Callywith Pastoral Team and recently The St Petroc's Society and The hugs Foundation to name just a few.

The Bodmin Inner Wheel club decorated their adopted flower bed in the town for the 80th V.E day celebrations. The Mayor of Bodmin attended to see the bed and to say what good work the club achieves in the town.

  I.W. DISTRICT 129 TRERISE 19 MAY 2025
IW District 129 had an outing to Trerice House near Newquay. The sun shone, members had time to stroll around the house, and gardens. Eat and drink and chat together. The highlight of the day was the most informative talk that was provided for some of the members about how the Tudors dressed.
Lady Mary wore her night wear, and her maids took us through the many layers that a wealthy lady would wear to get dressed. All the costumes had been handmade by volunteers who make up the Trerice Sewing Club. Our members were then given the opportunity to be dressed and they proudly paraded around the grounds, and had their photograph taken in front of the house.
A huge thank you to the National Trust Staff and volunteers for a wonderful day.

  I.W. TAVISTOCK

At the recent meeting of the Inner Wheel Club of Tavistock, Jenny Thomas, local speaker and advocate for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) gave a moving talk about the work of CRY, which aims to raise awareness, fund research, provide screening for 14 to 25 year olds and support bereaved families, who have lost a young adult from a cardiac death. On average 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions every week in the UK.
Screening tends to find one young person with a heart condition in every 100 screened. They also fund genetic research into heart conditions. A day of screening costs about £7000 and can see 125 people. All of the 2012 UK Olympic Team were screened by CRY.
A cheque for £1000 was donated to the charity.

My name is Joyce Moir and I have been a member of Inner Wheel for 58 years. I started in Camelford in 1967 when my husband and I moved there from London for work. I was invited to join Inner Wheel and it was a new club, just started and we were all young and eager to work for Inner Wheel.
After 5 years there we moved to Launceston and I was to join Launceston Inner Wheel which I did. I have enjoyed my many years as a member and made many friends and still do. I have been President twice and Secretary many times also Club Correspondent.
I have found Inner Wheel very interesting and enjoy the meetings, coffee mornings etc.
I look forward to a few more years of possible as I am 94 years of age! Joyce Moir
